Express to Taipei

Well, that was the easiest eleven hours Ive done in a while.

Well, that was the easiest eleven hours I’ve done in a while. LA to Taipei was an express train, smooth and fast. Smiley face baseball cap, eye mask, lip tape, scarf around my neck, Patagonia puffer, Vuori sweats, cashmere socks, “Do Not Disturb” on. My perfectly executed fit, saying “I’ve done this before.”

That’s what it feels like when your heart is full full. When you’ve had a great stretch in LA, dinners with your people, long walks, belly laughs, shopping old haunts, a stroll down Abbott Kinney, and a reminder that life can be cutting and wild and generous all at once. Expect magic, see the miracles, ditch any pessimism, repeat.

Now here I am, at 5:30 a.m. in Taipei, hunting for the B gates from the D gates, which sounds simple but feels like a mild endurance event. The Trader Joe’s tote bag is the national flag of the layover, spotted everywhere. LA baseball caps too. Rain pouring outside, sleepy smiles inside.

A bowl and a belly full of noodles later, I’m ready for part two. Next stop: Bali. New adventures. My 84 year old dad waiting there, holding down the fort, maybe.

The Ubud Writers and Readers Festival kicks off this weekend, and I’m previewing before EQ-ing. I’m a guest next year. Today I’m choosing to act like it’s already done.
